After the end of the group stage, only Philippines remained in the competition where they qualified for the semi final. They will face host nation the Maldives on Tuesday, 27/5.

Philippines however remain at fourth place with 440 points and a rating of 63. Laos and Myanmar finally make its debut in the ranking, with the former in sixth place with 75 points and a rating of 25 and the latter is one rank above them, which is in fifth place with 90 points and a rating of 30.

Nothing change in the table standings as Malaysia still on the top notwithstanding the rating dropped as a result of the draw against The Philippines. As for Philippines, they end their warm up for the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup with 1 win ( v Nepal ), 2 draws ( both vs Malaysia ) and 1 lost ( vs Azerbaijan ). They will start their competition journey against Afghanistan on 20/5/14.

The Philippines, also known as Azkals continue their preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup with the tour to the Middle East. 2 games will be played, one of them will be vs Nepal in a international friendly this Friday at Nepal.


This is Azkals third international friendly match in just 2 months. Coach Thomas Dooley will make sure his boys can live up to expectations on why they deserved to be the top favourites to qualify to AFC Asian Cup 2015. A win will strengthen their rating from a current 15 to 37 ( after 3 matches with 110 points )

Indonesia lost 1-0 to Cuba in their second international friendly in Alzira, Spain this afternoon ( 29/3/2014 ). Benny Wahyudi is the culprit of the match when he scored an unfortunate own goal to give Cuba the win.

Indonesia standing in the ranking is not affected and they still remain in third place. However, the rating now drop from 160 to 107 after 3 matches with 320 points.

To be honest, I don't know there are 2 friendlies from Indonesia in preparation for AFF Cup this year end. But here it goes.

Indonesia beat Andorra 1-0 in a friendly  ( 26/3/2014 ) in Valencia, Spain, as part of their Spanish tour. A late penalty from Raphael Matimo saves Indonesia the blushes from a minor European side. Their next international friendly will be vs Cuba this Saturday ( 29/3/2014 ).

The win means Indonesia climb one spot to third place, and the Philippines as a result drop one spot to fourth place. Indonesia collect 320 points with this win, and after 2 matches, a rating of 160.

Apart from the friendly match between Philippines and Azerbaijan, 5 national teams from SEA will play at the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier match tomorrow ( 5/3/14 ). Only Malaysia stand a chance to qualify to the main event next year in Australia as best third place team if they can beat Yemen at Al Ain, United Arab Emirates and hope other potential teams ( Iraq, Syria and Lebanon ) do not win their respective match. The remaining 4 teams stand no chance at all to qualify, and matches involving them is only to wrap up the fixtures.


First up is Oman v Singapore  from Group A. Even a win for Singapore will not bring them to Australia. They need to win on a big margin ( at least 8 goals ) and hope Syria lost to Jordan. But if they win, they will collect 750 points to get a rating of 375 after 2 matches.

2 friendly matches will be played for this month, both feature PHILIPPINES. One of the match that involve the 'Azkals' will be against fellow SEA rivals MALAYSIA on 1/3/14 at Selayang, Malaysia, with the other is vs Azerbaijan 4 days later at Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  Both matches act as a preparation for the PHILIPPINES challenge to the AFC Challenge Cup this May at the Maldives, while MALAYSIA also use this friendly match for their final AFC Asian Cup qualifier game vs Yemen at a venue yet to be known.

Win for either PHILIPPINES or MALAYSIA will see them earn 80 points with a rating of 80 after 1 match. However, Philippines might top the group later on 5/3/14 if they can beat Azerbaijan, a team under Europe ( UEFA ). A victory for Azkals will see them earn a staggering 320 points. The best case scenario for them is that they can earn a total of 400 points with a rating of 200 after 2 matches, good enough for them to stay on top of the ranking chart for some time.
